Gothic, Baroque, wooden houses and skyscrapers … by bicycle!:

Route description:
Vilnius is famous for it’s old town – but there is much more.
Then we will lead you to the river – out of the centre to the quarter of palaces and embassies. In between – St. Peter and Paul Church, a pearl of Baroque architecture in Northern Europe (Didn’t I mention the Pope has been here, too?). Futuristic on the other side of the river … The city district of Žirmunai with the KGB sport’s palace won the national price for architecture – in 1968… Hard to believe, but among these grey concrete blocks you’ll see wooden cabins. And behind it the new residential quarters. They already cover a part of the huge Soviet military district which was know in former times as the North Town. Let us stop – seriously – for commemoration at the monument for the war in Afghanistan. And one more contrast, is to get a traditional Lithuanian meal in “Marceliukes kletis” one of the oldest (and the best) folk style restaurants in Vilnius. Now let’s get back: we’ll cross so called “Shanghai” of Vilnius, the old wooden house quarter of Šnypiškes, just in the shadows of the skyscrapers of the Europe centre. And finally – take a look at the city from “the secret view point”. Look at what you have seen, and what stays hidden to an usual tourist. We take you back safely via the main prestige road – the Gedimino prospektas – to the Old town.

Trakai is famous for many things: it’s water castle, the lakes, the manor house of Užutrakis.
The small old town itself lies among the lakes as it would be on an island.
ut – to be honest – nobody thinks about bicycling. However, we do: cycling around the lakes gives you impressive views on the water castle. And – as usual – if you get a bit away from the crowds you’ll find yourself in the lonely, lonely nature.
Our tour start in the Old town with the typical picture of the water castle. Then we cycle along the lake and already soon it get’s silent. First, we come to the ruins of the outer castle (popular place for medieval festivals), then we’ll walk over the water. This is no blasphemy, we take swimming pontoon bridge to cross the lakes. On the other side we take a look on how the newly rich image their life and have a sad look on what is left of the Soviet Yacht Club. For You something unknown, but known to every Lithuanian is a piliakalnis – a castle mound from medieval times – like this of Varnikiai. Our route now leads us into the dark forest – where we might have a look on the path on the swamp.
After this fairy tale forest we come into a typical Lithuanian landscape of hilly fields and lonely farmsteads.
You probably don’t recall, but now it is already time to turn back.
Sportive cyclists choose the way ahead towards Lentvaris manor house – or make a round trip around the whole lakes. This makes up to 50 km. If you don’t consider that much, you do not know the road conditions on the Eastern side of the lake. Gravel that make you swallow…

Just crossing the city border we enter a different world: wooden village, pure rivers – and the spirits of the past.

Our trip takes us to one of old holy oak forests of the pagan Baltic faith. And on a hiking trip along the river we meet the nature and the unknown stories of the local residents. And finally you may be granted with a mug of Lithuanian beer!

Still within the city there is – as I am convinced – one of the most beautiful lakes in whole Lithuania – the Green Lake. Lets take a breath and surround it by food.

And for the cultural education we’ll bring you to one of the biggest open air art expositions in Europe: the Centre of Europe park.
